Wickham Horse Fair On Monday |

Hampshire Constabulary is issuing advice to motorists and visitors during Wickham Horse Fair which takes place on Monday, May 21.
The fair takes place in The Square, Wickham which will be closed to traffic from 5am on the Monday and re-opened at about 8pm.
The A334 Winchester Road from the A32 School Road junction to the Blind Lane/Titchfield Lane junction will be closed to through traffic also from 5am to 8pm.

Fire Service Exercise At Queen Alexandra Hospital On Tuesday 22 May |
|
Staff at Queen Alexandra Hospital would like to make members of the public aware that a Hampshire Fire and Rescue service mass decontamination unit will attend our site for an exercise due to take place on Tuesday 22 May. There will be no live “casualties”.
Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is working in collaboration with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service on the exercise to test the response to an incident where mass decontamination might be required such as a chemical spillage.
The event will take place from 10.00am to 4.00pm and occur in real time.

Penny Backs Charity’s Campaign For Early Diagnosis Of Children’s Heart Conditions |

Penny Mordaunt, MP for Portsmouth North, has backed a new campaign by the UK’s leading children’s heart charity, The Children’s Heart Federation, which seeks to increase early diagnosis of heart conditions for children.
The Think HEART campaign aims to empower and inform parents giving them the confidence to raise their concerns about their child with their doctor or a health professional. The Think HEART acronym has five easy to remember steps to identify a possible heart problem:

Daisy Chain Festival Coming Soon To Albert Road, Southsea |

The traders of Albert Road, along with the Kings Theatre, are always doing something to get the community together and let people know of the many delights that this special street in Southsea has to offer.
This year, on June 24th to be precise, they've organised a Daisy Chain Festival, which aims to get whole families out and about, meeting the traders and learning more about what goes on in this area of Southsea. You may recall the old "Albert Road Days", the last of which attracted around 85 thousand people. The Daisy Chain Festival is somenthing new and different.

Learning Through Recreation And Play |

The Submarine Museum in Gosport is just one of many community venues holding adult learning courses supported by Hampshire County Council which promote learning through recreational activities and can change people’s lives.
This week (12-18 May) is Adult Learners Week and David Stepnitz from Gosport is one of several enthusiastic adult learners who are sharing their experiences to help the County Council raise the profile of Adult Learning and encourage other adults to take part in courses.
David has been attending a Dad’s club supported by the County Council through Hampshire Learning which is held on Saturday’s at the Submarine Museum in Gosport and it has had a big impact on his life.

School Boy Makes You Tube Video To Promote Fostering |

16 year old Jack Austin, whose parents are foster carers for Portsmouth City Council, has made a You Tube video to talk about his experiences and to encourage other families to foster.
Jack’s parents, Melvyn and Tor, were approved as foster carers last September and have had a foster child living with them since January. Jack, who is currently studying for his GCSEs, was so inspired by the experience that he decided to make the video.
Jack said: “YouTube is obviously one of the most used websites for videos in the world and I felt that it would be the best place to share my thoughts and experiences of fostering to a wide audience.

New Uniform For Firefighters |

Firefighters in Hampshire will be sporting a new and improved gold-colour fire kit from today, replacing the previous dark-colour kit. The new personal protection equipment (PPE) will also include helmets, gloves and boots which form part of the new kit.
The new kit delivers a high technical specification and a more ergonomic design therefore increasing its usability for our frontline staff, whilst also providing a standard approach to PPE across the region. It is an excellent example of fire and rescue services working together to improve safety and service delivery as well as delivering efficiencies.

Appeal To Drivers To Show Respect To School Crossing Patrols |

Hampshire Constabulary is supporting Hampshire County Council in its bid to reduce incidents of verbal abuse directed at the Council’s School Crossing Patrol men and women by road users.
In recent months, there has been a number of incidents involving drivers speaking aggressively to, and swearing at, lollipop men and women while they are carrying out their duty to ensure children and adults get across the road safely.
