Firstly, I would like to thank you for logging on to portsmouthnews.tv the news and information website for Portsmouth and the surrounding area (Gosport, Fareham, Havant and Hayling Island). My colleagues and I extend you the warmest of welcomes and hope that you will bookmark our site and visit regularly to find out what’s going on in the area we cover. But, we would like your input to our project too. portsmouthnews.tv is owned by John Thompson Productions, but is a co-operative venture involving a team of professional broadcast journalists, camera crews and writers, all of whom have worked in radio or television newsrooms in this area. Our joint aim is to provide a daily digest of news and events, many of which will be uploaded as video news stories. Our feature pages such as sport, house and home and entertainment, are written by experts in their field and will, we trust, make for interesting reading.
Tim Cooper is an experienced broadcast journalist, who listeners in the area will have heard reading the news on one of the many radio stations across the South of England. Tim also reports for the British Forces Broadcasting Television News Service. Tim is an excellent video journalist with a keen eye for good picture stories.
Peter Flint is our cameraman covering Portsmouth and Southsea. Apart from the years he has spent filming for television news, Peter has produced a number of DVD's on a wide variety of subjects. One in particular looked at the former cinema industry in the city, which won him high acclaim among film-goers who remember the days when a night at the movies could be enjoyed in such places as the Odeon in Southsea, the Gaumont (now a Mosque) and the Essoldo.
So, Peter knows his history and way around Portsmouth. Together with cameraman, Peter writers like “Q” Shillingford, Cliff Pledge, Robin Kay, our web specialist Fred O'Rourke and others, we hope to have something for everyone on portsmouthnews.tv This is where YOU come in. At portsmouthnews.tv we welcome your input to our website. If you spot something newsworthy, tell us about it or even grab a picture on your mobile phone. Among our contributors, we welcome Gethyn Jones, 25 years as a producer with the BBC and more recently working in the independent radio and television industry. Gethyn is our webmaster, having built this site, and will also be providing reports and feature content. Gethyn will also monitor and upload any pictures or content that you care to submit. (see below)
David Hunt is an award winning photographer who served for many years in the Royal Navy, seven of which were spent on the Royal Yacht Britannia. He now runs a photography business. The superb shot of Portsmouth at the top of our site is David’s work and he will be providing news stills and video for the site. Let’s face it, if David’s photos were right for “Her Maj”, they’ll be fine on
Bill Butcher is one of our team of broadcast producers, who compiles our video archive and stories in the north of Portsmouth. In one way or another, Bill has spent his working life working with cameras and television studios. He's lived in and around the city for over 30 years and thinks he still finds the odd suprise around the place.
Matt Hampton is Mr. Speedy where video editing is concerned. Matt is kept busy making the video commercials which you’ll find down the right hand side of our pages, but also gets out and about with one of our broadcast cameras, gathering stories.
