With that in mind, curators at the National Museum of the Royal Navy, on September 25th, are offering visitors the chance to find out about the different career paths of their naval ancestors, learn how to interpret information from their service certificates and discover what archive resources are available.

Half term at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard from Saturday 23rd to Sunday 31st October has a fun-filled Halloween theme challenging visitors to test their nerve as they discover more about ghosts, ghouls and sea monsters with the chance to create their own to take home.

During the week HMS Warrior 1860 will be hosting family craft activities, a pumpkin trail and telling spooky ghost stories.

I note the new owners of South Parade Pier are planning to take it back to its 1950s glory - best of luck to them but I would suggest they take a closer look at the many old black and white pictures of Southsea from the time.

The Pier had Summer Shows then (try putting one on now and you`d be bankrupt within weeks) the beach was packed, the traffic was heaving, the hotel opposite  was chock a block, Canoe Lake was like a scene from Blackpool.
